What is Lean?
Lean is a business philosophy that focuses on the relentless elimination of waste in a manufacturing process in pursuit of satisfying the customer.
A process is a series of steps that converts an input into an output. The customer is the recipient of the output.
Each step in a process creates a transformation that moves it closer towards the final output. If a transformation happens then the step creates value or is called “value-adding”. If it does not, then it is considered non-value adding. A non-value adding step is waste or “Muda” which the Japanese term for waste.
Lean is all about the elimination of these Muda.
